Your assignment:
Below, you will find a copy of the poem, "Grandma's Scones."
Your assignment:
- Before reading the poem, think of food or smell that reminds you of your childhood. Take about five to seven minutes to do a free write about it. Remember that a free write is writing about whatever comes to mind, but your pen/pencil must always be moving.
- Read the poem.
- TPCASTT the poem.
- Use your free write and the insight you gained from the poem to create a piece--a poem, a song, a drawing, etc.; whatever you choose to do so long as it has an element of either visual or auditory representation--that reminisces about your chosen food/smell and it's connection to a memory of family or childhood. You will get one full work period to complete this activity. Rubric is below.

Writing a Rockin' Thesis Statement
Check out OWL at Purdue for information on what a thesis statement is (and is not). You received this as a handout in class though. It might be worth a quick peruse to make sure you know exactly what you are doing.
Click on this activity and follow the instructions. You should check your answers!
Click on this other activity. You will have to complete the exercises in your notebook though (sorry!).
Once you finish these activities, please revise your paragraph (especially your thesis statement). Once you are content, please have a peer edit your paragraph.
Go back, and revise your paragraph a few times more. As soon as it is "supa fly," as you young cool cats say, please hand it in via the hand in form below (it will show up in my inbox).

Summaries and Helpful Texts/Links
It's a bit vulgar, but this guy does a great job of summarizing To Kill A Mockingbird. It's called Thug Notes. It keeps it real by getting down and rap pin' 'bout the book-izzle, yo.
Check out Shmoop too.
Oh, and don't forget Sparknotes!
